Introduction
Even during holidays, a designer’s mind is still bubbling with curiosity. I had the chance to see many interesting freeways and bridges on my recent trip overseas. In this article, I will share with you how I used reference from my holiday photographs to construct and design.

I love looking at freeways and bridges. Here, I found it interesting to see how this particular flyover was constructed using this support.

It's amazing how city hall can plant a freeway in any direction anytime anywhere. It is also this randomness that gives the city a sense of controlled chaos that I have come to really appreciate.

I took this picture to look at what the bottom of a bridge looks like. How it is constructed to support all that weight that goes on top of it on a daily basis. Also, this is a very good example of foreshortening in real life.

I found the raw design used in the construction of this airport to be very intriguing, especially the combination of the beams with huge bolts and fasteners.

This is a picture I took to study the wire networks. The electric cables that the trains use. I’m looking at how the wires connect and how the equipment is arranged.

The various shops are packed and stored away under this massive railway track, creating a small cluster of activity at every section. I’m looking at how these shops are arranged, how the various piping works reach them and how the people move around this area.

After understanding how these big structures are constructed, I put what I have studied into application. I took bit and pieces of information from these photographs and combined them to come up with the above design.

And so this wraps up my article today. Remember, I took these pictures not as a souvenir or a memento, but to study and invoke ideas in my head.
