The video game and film industry appeal to many young kids. However, the opportunity to enter this field as a concept designer is often clouded in secrecy and mystery. Last week, the FZD School of Design opened its doors to give students from ITE a sneak peek into the world of Entertainment design. Many of these students love playing video games in their spare time. In fact, some even came armed with Sony’s PSPs in their backpacks. But how does one turn a passion for games into a life-long career? Kai, FZD’s marketing staff, explained to students that this dream job is not out of reach. With hard work and dedication, they can accomplish this goal in just a few years.

Before & After Portfolios. Prior to attending
FZD, our students drew and designed without direction and structure. After even just a few months of study at FZD, their work clearly demonstrated a professional level of achievement – a feat which undoubtedly surprised the ITE students.

A picture can tell a thousand words. And thus, it’s no surprise that many of ITE’s student’s eyes were glued to our student gallery. What amazed them the most was the level of improvement FZD students achieved in such a short amount of time. This is of course no secret. By learning the correct skills and applying them in sequence, students improve much faster. They gain the ability to recognize mistakes and learn how to take advantage of efficiency. This combination of shedding the old and applying the new greatly reduces the learning curve.

Following the presentation, our guests got a first hand look at FZD student’s portfolios. In addition, FZD student representatives shared their experiences and provided a private insight into the daily routines at our school.

As the day came to an end, we hope that some of ITE’s students walked away with a new understanding of the Entertainment Design industry. With so many opportunities ahead of them, it can be a tough decision to choose the right career path. However, perhaps we inspired a few individuals in the audience and we hope to see them return to FZD in the near future.
