Introduction

Hailing from France and currently residing in Singapore, concept artist Frederick Rambaud previously worked as an associate art director at Funcom, producing video games such as the epic Age of Conan online, The Secret World and Anarchy Online Lost Eden. Upon his arrival in Singapore, he joined Imaginary Friends Studio. He is currently working as a free-lance concept artist.

Recently, we had the chance to work with Fred during our Production Painting course. It is our pleasure this week to chat with him and showcase his work here.

In this article, Fred talks about the various aspects of himself. From his thought processes to his experiences working with Feng.

Below are selected pieces of work by Fred that features his skills in depicting conceptual environments. More of Fred’s work can be seen at www.fredram.com. We have also included a short video interview with him at the end of this article.

On Inspiration

During our conversation, Fred shared with us his sources of inspiration,“ I’m inspired by the real world, I read books, magazines and look at pictures, I also watch a lot of movies.” Fred mentions National Geography as one of the magazines he reads.

On His Work Process

“I like to have a general idea and goal of the subject. I’m not the kind of artist who just sits down without any idea of what’s going to happen, and starts doodling and gets inspired along the way. I like to have a brief”, adds Fred on how he would start a painting.
